Looking Into the Future: My Predictions for Obama’s First Term

Barack Obama

After days full of sycophantic state worshiping, the federal government finally has a new figurehead leading it, and most Americans are still very optimistic about Obama’s chances to turn the ship of state in the correct direction. I for one happen to be in the minority that thinks this administration will be no less tyrannical than every other administration since this government’s founding. But that is not to say I don’t have any criteria for his to be a successful presidency. I do, and I will share them with you, along with my predictions on how I think Obama and his administration will actually perform during the next four years.

The War in Iraq:

A great deal of Obama’s support during this election came from the anti-war left who felt that Obama would stop the occupation of Iraq (he was chosen over Hillary Clinton because she supports the war). In order to be successful in this area, Obama needs to withdraw all combat troops from the region, end the needless bloodshed, and allow the local populations to reorganize themselves any way they choose.

My Prediction: FAIL

I predict that Obama will stay to his word and that troop levels will decrease in Iraq, but I don’t intend to see a complete withdraw anytime within my lifetime. I mean after all the US still has troops in Korea, Europe, and Japan, so be prepared for them to keep troops in Iraq for at least another 50 years. I don’t expect troop levels to drop below 20,000 men in Obama’s term. Far from being the peacenik that some of his supporters believe he is, Obama is more than likely to take the troops that might be removed from Iraq and place them in Afghanistan. I predict that if this troop buildup occurs, it will antagonize neighboring Pakistan (and Iran), and the conflict could very easily spill over into that country’s territory.

The War on Drugs:

In order for Obama to be considered a success in this arena, he needs only to close down the DEA and end this useless war on Drugs. You know what; I’ll even lower his threshold for success in my eyes, just end the war on cannabis. Release all the non-violent drug offenders who are locked up (raped and beaten on a regular basis) and allow people to live their lives in peace.

DEA scum

My Prediction: FAIL

I actually think that Obama will do as he says and will try to stop all medical marijuana raids perpetrated by the DEA. Although I predict that he will have trouble controlling the bureaucracy and the raids will continue despite his orders for quite some time. The inherent corruption and unaccountability found in all state bureaucracies will ensure that these raids will continue because nobody will (can) get blamed for the orders carried out, that were given by some nameless person somewhere up the chain. There is too much money involved in the drug war for it to go away peacefully into the night. There are an endless number of middle class bureaucrats who make their living by demonizing drug users, imprisoning them, counseling them, raiding and killing them. They will not let this drug war end, and Obama is powerless to do anything about it.

The Surveillance State:

Another easy one that he could get done immediately if he so desired. Repeal all of Bush’s executive orders, veto any bills that expand government powers, work with congress to repeal the PATRIOT Act I & II, the Military Commissions Act, and the FISA bill and stop the NSA spying and torturing at home and abroad.

Big Brother watching...

My Prediction: FAIL

None of this will happen, not a single one. Why would Obama limit his power now that he is the one able to wield it? I expect further intrusions into people’s personal lives. I expect the powers of the president will become expanded greatly, especially in the area of economic control as the recession grows deeper. Expect lots more government paperwork to have to be filled out, especially in the area of firearm purchasing and financial records. The government will know more about you in four years time then they do now. I guarantee it.

The Economy:

Simple enough, lower taxes, stop the endless regulations and stop the bailouts. Push for oversight over the Federal Reserve and the Treasury department and stop them from printing money and handing it out to their buddies in business. If Obama wants a second term, this will be the issue that either makes or breaks his chances of winning.

Down the tubes...

My Prediction:  FAIL

This one I can predict with nearly 100% certainty, Obama will NOT help the US economy out of this recession. In fact by thinking he even has the ability to do so, shows that he knows as much about economics and a high school dropout. Instead of allowing the market to correct itself, Obama is going to follow along right with Bush and his cronies and continue big government spending. I’m positive the bailouts will continue; only this time with Democrat favored industries and projects on the receiving end instead of the Republican ones. So called “green energy” companies should be expecting a great deal of your tax money. So should the government contractors who are all ready to start building bridges to nowhere across the country.  This is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his economic policies. Expect higher taxes, more regulation, and maybe price and wage controls when things start to spiral out of control (well government ‘control’ anyway, markets will do what markets will do).

In conclusion, if you are a lover of Freedom and Liberty, if you believe you should be able to keep the wealth you earn, Obama is not out there trying to help you. If on the other hand you’re a state worshiping bureaucrat, or a welfare queen, or you just like telling other people how to live their lives; well Obama should exceed your expectations just like the previous 43 men who came before him.
